Nicholas Culpepper (1616-1654) was a very famous astrologer-physician of the early 17th Century. After a short apprenticeship to an apothecary in St. Helen`s, Bishopsgate, he set up his own practice  in Red Lion Street, Spitafields in 1640.

Throughout his life he lived in straitened circumstances, he was always happy and willing to give free advice to many poor people who came to him for help.
