Shoes- Sandals and Boots
When we go out shopping for sandals, shoes and boots, we usually have a pre-meditated idea of the design and style that will match the costumes and leisure items that are going to be worn with them, in this instance the same mistake re-occurs, we often do not think of the future impact that style design and fabric choice can have on the condition of our feet. The best option for people with a propensity to sweat a lot on their feet is to buy footwear which is not absorbent, such as hard leather or hard PVC plastic shoes.
They will not stop your feet from smelling bad, the positive result here is, this footwear does not collect sweat and bacteria cannot thrive. We all have a favorite pair of shoes, we become fond of them because they often represent softness, suede shoes are a good example of this, the sad thing is, that they often stink after wearing them for a few hours.(Bupa 2006)
It is a misconception that closed shoes are more likely to cause foot odour compared to the sandal type or open tipped shoes, footwear with open areas does contribute to less sweat build up, and does not relate to the amount of bacteria present, and most of all to bacterial growth, we must understand that the material and dyes that the footwear is made of has a greater bearing on the occurrence of foot odour, compared to how ''open'' or airy the design of the footwear is.
A good example of material used to make footwear that is quite absorbent is a form of PVC, derived synthetic sponge, used in making Japanese sandals. These are the cheap sandals that people widely use on the beaches and are normally called thongs.(flip-flops)After reading the above you may think, now '' what are we supposed to do with all of these shoes that increase foot odour'' the answer is ''deal with your shoes'' (Bupa 2006) |
